Hours on the game: 15 Hours

Overview:

Enter the Gungeon is a top down rogue lite shooter, you take control of one of the many characters in Gungeon (six in total) each has one to two weapons, a passive item or active. In Enter the Gungeon you run through the Dungeons going from room to room shooting the multitude of cute enemies and looting for helpful to completely useless items.

Plot:

As you go through the Gungeon you obtain odd items which include but are not limited to The Prime Primer, The bullet that can kill the past and a few more. These items are key items on completing the game. Gungeon starts by giving a beautiful cut scene and an in-depth lore on the game in a bite size chunk.

SPOILER ALERT

Your chosen character wander from the Gungeon collecting parts of a gun that can kill the past. When all parts are collected you must take them to one of the game's many NPCs and he will build the "Gun that can Kill the past" you must then go back in time to before you came to the Gungeon and fight your past, if you win, the game ends and you complete it.

SPOILER OVER

Gameplay:

This game is hard... really hard. As the Gungeoneer you must fight hordes of enemies, you are given guns that help you on your way but have limited ammunition, luckily there are ammo boxes but they only refill on weapon's ammo to maximum capacity, as well this isn't like doom, guns have magazines and require you to reload and can either be really quick or really slow, movement can be boosted by items that are found and compulsory to collect. The player is also capable of dodge rolling, dodge rolls grant temporary immunity for the first 4 frames, but this cannot be spammed as you cannot attack and can also take damage in the ending 4 frames.

Bosses require the player to use their skill and wit to defeat, killing the boss will allow you to enter the next floor of the gungeon and bring you a step closer to victory. Players that can kill the boss without losing any health are gifted an extra heart and other bonus items.

NPCs are found in the floors of the gungeon, the NPCs are locked inside of prison cells and require the player to find a golden key to free them, each NPC offers the player something new to use or buy. Bosses drop a special currency that only NPCs accept, these items that take the special currency, add to the items that could be found in the Gungeon's many chests to aid the player or hinter them.

Opinion:

It's an extremely addictive game, each death brings you closer to the end game and what little progress you make in the end adds up and makes every failure worth it. I have yet to complete the game and I am no where near a standard of good but the game is fun and I find myself coming back to it more and more.

In summary:

Enter the Gungeon is available on Steam for the grand price of £10.99 in the UK and $14.99 in America. The game is reviewed as overwhelming Positive in both recently and overall sections of steam (to date 12/9/17) It's a fun little game that also has a co-op feature but sadly no online multiplayer, the game's are is amazing, each pixel has had a lot of time and effort put into it to build this beautiful pixelated atmosphere.
