Britain’s terror threat has been raised to critical by Theresa May after a bomb partially detonated on the London tube on the 16thSeptember. Four days ago, an 18-year-old was arrested in Dover and a property was raided due to a belief that it was connected to the case. Thirty people were injured in the attack and three people remain in hospital. ISIS have claimed an involvement in the attack, however it is common for groups to take credit in the event of other terror attacks to give themselves more of a threatening presence. The 18-year-old held in custody is a Syrian refugee who was in the care of a couple who foster refugees often and were awarded MBE’s from the queen for this.

This year’s succession of terror attacks has been the most sustained period of terror activity in England since the IRA bombing campaign in the 1970s; this is the fifth this year.

The IED contained Triacetone Triperoxide which can be made with nail polish remover, this is not deflectable with conventional testing equipment. This was the same type of explosive used in Manchester in May, which killed twenty-two people. The bomb in the most recent attack was concealed in a bucket and a shopping bag.

There are frequent announcements on train lines throughout the country that highlight how to deal with it if that situation arises. See it, Say it, Sort it. This would make more of an impact if it was also televised as a prevention campaign. Not specifically about Syrian refugees or Muslims, this would just increase fear in the population, making everyone more hostile and racist. It should be aimed at how to deal with suspicious behaviour and packages no matter who you are, everyone should be informed.
