Deathwing Vs. The Review

Hours on spent on game: 10 hours

Overview:

Space Hulk is a game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. If you don't know what that is, in brief Humanity have fused with machine and become cultists to the Empire, this Empire has many parts to it but the main two are the Space Marines and Imperial Guard. Other creatures and races exist in this universe and all are at war with each other. The other races include Eldar (A race of Elves that rely on magic fused with technology), Dark Eldar (the Evil version of the Eldar that wish to destroy everything), the Orks (an army of Green hulking brutes, they thrive and make everything from scrap and are known for overwhelming their enemies with their endless numbers) and more.

Plot:

Spacehulk is the Story between the Space Marines known as the Deathwing, and Tyranids. As a Member of Deathwing you take control of a Space Marine Terminator, a towering monstrosity of technology and humanity. As a Terminator you and your Squad are sent to a Spacehulk, and must wander through the erie corridors, huge chapels and exterminate the Tyranids. Tyranids or Xenos are small to Huge Aliens that only wish to spread their world domination by eating the multiverse.

Gameplay:

The Game is based around a Player vs Environment world, in short if you enjoyed the Left 4 Dead game then this game is a solid choice, having up to 5 player co-op and 6 playable classes each with unique abilities and weapons, while the game only has 9 missions for the main story, there are 9 bonus missions and each level is massive, so big that they give you a basic but useful map that allows you to navigate the labyrinthine of the Spacehulk.

Since the enemies are endless it is easy to know when you will be attacked, the two most common places are huge open areas with little to few exits to run to, and tight narrow corridor, the lighting in the game along with the atmosphere makes walking this gothic architecture themed ship creepy, earie and frightening.

Opinion:

In the words of Reggie from Nintendo, "The game is fun" it involves player exploring and looking for both relics (Hidden secret items) and the Objective. While a Map is provided to the player(s) the game never really pauses, you could open the map up in a large open space and bang when you come out you're assaulted by Aliens three times the size of your tiny human body. I mainly played this game co-op with two other friends and it was fun and scary. We explored every inch of the ship and all agreed that it was somewhere none of us would want to be stuck inside. The enemies provide enough variety and challenge (Except one enemy that was the bane of our lives) the one enemy is a heavy weapons using cultist. While the crew of the ship have all been massacred, some gave themselves to the aliens creating Genestealer Cultists, these things are the creepiest things in the game, they are humanoid shaped but mutated so they are part Xeno, the appearance of them is deformed, and eerie, some even having human skin stretched across their faces like some kind of Leather Face impersonator. However, there was one Cultist collection that could use heavy weapons. This resulted in the players taking huge amounts of damage to a hidden glass cannon which stopped being creepy and became annoying as they would always focus the Healer which meant that the team was forced to kill it before their only source of healing goes. Never the less the game is great and provides a balanced challenge for players will to play on the harder difficulties. The missions are standard of a survival horde game, get from point A to point B without dying so don't expect too much or you might be disappointed although the bets parts of the game come from when the players must walk through a Xeno hive on the ship. It's not pretty and acts like a labyrinth making players panic and lose them selves to the maze like hive.

In Summary:

The game is £30 and on sale it's around £15, it will get cheaper in time but the game is still being worked on, implementing more levels, weapons and character classes, the latest update gave us the Chaplin, if you don't know what that is it might be worth reading up on the Warhammer 40,000 universe lore, as the game gives a lot that you won't understand if you are new to the Warhammer universe. I'd recommend buying it when it is on sale and grabbing a few friends to play with as it can get tedious with bots.
