Afterthought movies

Afterthought movies are sequels or possibly prequels if the boot fits, that try, and I do mean try, to expand the lore but fail. The story used is one that seems like it was a leftover idea left on the cutting room floor after making the last movie.

Usually this happens with more popular movies and the producers think it's a good idea to make a movie about what happens after that and usually try and fail to make it a big finale!

Hear about the new Daniel Craig Bond movie to end all Bond Daniel Craig Bond movies? Well, Spectre was that Daniel Craig Bond movie to and all Daniel Craig Bond movies but failed.

Spectre is essentially the sequel to Skyfall.

For me Skyfall is where they should have ended the Bond franchise altogether.

They ran out of books to adapt, They ended Skyfall on a high note after an amazing series of events that really brought out the best character development I've seen in a Bond film in a long time and they got rid of some of the most vital and important parts of Bond and their characters so they could leave it on a high note, as if to say "We are starting anew" in memory of what was lost but also what was let go in order to move forward.

James' childhood home

M

And even one of his most iconic cars!

All sacrificed to make sure that this Bond movie was going to be different. Even the beginning of the film when Bond gets shot and he fails his mission is also a clear indicator of this since it proves to be the end of his famous winning streak in spy films!

A fresh start and a good way to end the series.

Spectre don't care!

Spectre was terrible in my opinion.

Spectre tells of the events that followed from Skyfall and even every other Daniel Craig Bond movie which in the narrative and the franchises retrospect makes it even more disappointing than normal!

The first mistake was having a Bond film that has a direct sequel. The second mistake was following the events of multiple Bond movies, and the third was following the events of only the Daniel Craig Bond movies. The third is the mistake narrative wise in particular.

Spectre is an organisation of villains both known and unknown since they obviously needed to fill up a crowd in particular scenes.

The organisation was inserted into the Bond series to add a canon or some kind of continuity to connect all the films together.

A concept that was never an intention of the original Bond and even if it was planned and it was an intended story arc, not after Skyfall. Just no.

Sky fall was an end-all movie. Classic elements were killed and cremated to commemorate a new age of Bond films or at least leave the film off with the assumption that even though there won't be more movies, the story of Bond will continue.

Adding a canon and continuity after Skyfall in an all new series of Bond films that have their own distinct elements that don't make it feel and look like the original series would be great.

Unfortunately they plugged in an idea for a movie at the last minute and it was terrible.

The Incredibles 2

Okay, it's a little soon to be talking about this movie under this kind of light but hear me out.

After thought movies are movies that are for the most part cobbled together stories, usually to appeal to the fanbase who go on and on about wanting a sequel or it's just a cash-grab which they didn't really care about.

The Incredibles 2 is more of a fanbase appeal movie but unlike many other movies that fans are obsessing over, the Incredibles is a superhero movie which means it has the potential for no end of sequels.

A superheroes job and even a secret agents job is to keep rolling with the punches and to hold the door against evil. If life has taught us anything is that there will never be an end to these sorts of things. And thus there is no end to how many superhero stories you can get out of it. However this doesn't necessarily mean they will always be good.

The first Incredibles movie was about a family of superheroes. Some has-been super parents who have out of the job for a long time now and 3 rowdy super kids who are a handful. Over due time they stop a villain motivated by his neglect from his hero and role model that brings the family closer.

There's a very well written story here about trust between the ones you love and yadda, yadda, yadda, family is important. It works when done right and the film was written and directed around the family issue and the intense action of super heroes who usually end up doing normal and domestic activities undercover.

There's another TV show on Nickelodeon that's one of the many clones of live TV shows that Nick pump out and this one in particular is just a 'The Incredibles' clone at best.

The Thundermans

(I'm not sorry for the image quality. This show doesn't deserve my effort)

I won't spend much time on this show but I will say this. The Thundermans is just like the Incredibles except for one thing. It's uninspired, doesn't try anything new and doesn't need super powers. There are family issues... and that's it. There's hi-jinks and the like but it has nothing to do with being a superhero. And that's the thing.

The Incredibles 2 could just be a high budget Thundermans.

According to the teaser, the movie could just be about dealing with Jak-Jak developing his powers and it could be a direct sequel to the first movie or just have a single year inbetween. If so then it's a film about handling your kids growing up. Nothing to do with superheroes in the least.

However we're talking about Pixar!

But then again it's Pixar which gives me a good segway to my next example.

Cars 3

As I'm writing this I am watching Cars 3 online and frankly, it's alot better than the first 2 movies.

The Cars movies are like afterthought movies except somehow they did it backwards. What I mean is the first 2 movies aren't really about racing cars at all.

The first Cars movie is only partly about racing cars on the account of the 'washed up legend' plot line but the movie's also about supporting smaller businesses.

Cars 2 is a straight up spy movie about a conspiracy surrounding a racing tournament.

Cars 3 is actually about racing all the way through. It's about a new breed of car that's faster than the main character, Lightning McQueen

it took them 2 Cars movies until they got around to a Cars movie that has a story specifically about cars.

Until now the first 2 Cars movies just didn't hit anything on the head except for merchandising. Well, how could it not if your movies are about sentient hot wheels.
