The world of Pokemon is full of fantastic beasts and adorable animals in every shape, size, species and ability known to man! Within this amazing planet is also a plethora of theatrical movies based off the anime based off the video game. Over the years I've noticed a change in these movies which I wish to talk about.

[Released in 2010 and based primarily on the forth generation of Pokemon games, Diamond and Pearl in 2007 as a teaser to the fifth generation of Pokemon, Black and White released in 2011]

First I deviate with a trilogy post and now a singular post! Such Madness!

Don't worry. Besides this and the next post, the regular equilibrium will be restored. Not to mention I plan to see that (currently) new Pokemon: I choose you movie as a bonus review, only available as a link opening in the last reviews post.

Anyhow, the overall reason this is a singular post is because it'll be the last Sinnoh/Gen 4 movie before Gen 5. Gen 5 has its own sorta trilogy that I'll be covering which will be much more interesting blog than this one in particular.

This is a surprisingly questionable Pokemon movie.

It's about a corrupt corporate man (very generic villain mind you) who touched a time portal Celebi created through its time travelling to gain the ability to have visions of the future. Now he enslaves a Zoroark under the pretences that they are keeping its child Zorua captive to turn into the legendary dog trio of Johto, Suicune, Raikou and Entei, to cause havoc and frame the real trio (who for some reason are now shiny Pokemon) in order to evacuate a portion of the city so he can look for another time portal to increase the power of his future vision.

It's Predictable

The villain is a corporate nobody who wants to control everything. The most basic villain you could come up with. I find it even puts Pirate Whocares from the Pokemon Ranger movie to the est for who is worse. Actually, I think this villain is worse because despite how stereotyped the pirate was, his motivation fits his pointless character. This businessman has no reason to do the things he does and has no interesting character built around him to even fill us in.

Other questions this movie brings up that's never explained or expanded on include are:

  • Why are the legendaries now shiny?

  • Why are Johto legendaries protecting a city in Sinnoh?

  • How can Zorua use telepathy (the most common ability allowing talking Pokemon) when its a dark and not a psychic type?

  • What's Pokemon Boccer and how do you play it?

  • Does Celebi remember Ash? It just looks and sounds like its default 'I trust anyone' voice.

  • How come Zorua can use telepathy to speak and not its mother Zoroark?

You can see where I'm going with this.

Overall this movie is boring and won't leave any effect on you. Nothing at all will linger and I'd rather move on than watch this movie again.
