The world of Pokemon is full of fantastic beasts and adorable animals in every shape, size, species and ability known to man! Within this amazing planet is also a plethora of theatrical movies based off the anime based off the video game. Over the years I've noticed a change in these movies which I wish to talk about.

[Released in 2013 and based primarily on the fifth generation of Pokemon game sequels, Black 2 and White 2 in 2012 as a teaser to the sixth generation of Pokemon, X and Y released in 2013 also]
This Pokemon movie makes me absolutely livid. It's inane ability to make me supremely angry and curious at the same time is stunning to me that it is able to come up with two interestingly new ideas and 2 abysmal choices which help me take on this brutal nature.
But let's start at the basics.

Mewtwo appears in this movie. Most of us remember Mewtwo as the Pokemon cloned from Mew's DNA by Team Rocket to do their dirty work. From this upbringing Mewtwo hated mankind until he was reformed by Ash Ketchum twice when Giovanni, Team Rockets leader, interfered a second time.
Heart warming.
Shame that doesn't matter here. Mewtwo as we know him doesn't exist and now has been replaced by another Mewtwo that we've never heard of. Some theories say it's the same Mewtwo and with his power of telepathy, he is able to make his voice sound feminine. That would be the case if it weren't for Ash's complete amnesia and the laboratory setup also being different.
And Mewtwo can mega evolve which according to the games is something that can only be done by trainers in battle. The exception apparently being Rayquaza.
Upon extra research I found that this rule just doesn't count in the anime.
Hooray for inconsistency...
Because of this we learn the exact same morals as the first and forth movie. However this is where it gets interesting.

Genesect is a resurrected Pokemon weaponised much like how Mewtwo would but by Team Plasma who don't make any major appearances in this.
However these Genesect escaped also but instead of trying to find their place in the world, they're trying to find their home as they struggle to accept the new world that has replaced their world.
When was the last time a Pokemon movie made me think like this?
Not only that but they're even throwing in natural biology stuff as well. The kind of stuff that builds up the Pokemon world in the first place.
One of the Genesect is young and makes friends with Ash (as the main Pokemon of these movies do) but because of the hive mind they share, the leader forces the Genesect to attack anyway.
It's been a while since any Pokemon movie included any kinds of scientific world building or character development of this level. The go-to nowadays is said Pokemon being betrayed in some way.
Oh, and Genesect can talk through telepathy (although never being called telepathy) despite being only Bug and Steel type but since the Genesect were augmented I'll let it pass.

[Released in 2014 and based primarily on the sixth generation of Pokemon games, X and Y in 2013]
Aw... after a festival of mixed feelings and thoughts from the last movie, we're back to the most basic plot line, just like that.

Diancie is the princess of something made of crystal. Guess.
It doesn't make alot of sense since there are no established queens.
Anyway, everybody's after Diancie because she can create diamonds.
That's it.
There's an objective I suppose to reach Xerneas for some kind of power, meanwhile they awaken Yveltal who simply destroys everything.
Predictable.
