An expansive library of Pokemon Movies [15 + 16]

The world of Pokemon is full of fantastic beasts and adorable animals in every shape, size, species and ability known to man! Within this amazing planet is also a plethora of theatrical movies based off the anime based off the video game. Over the years I've noticed a change in these movies which I wish to talk about.

[Released in 2011 and based primarily on the fifth generation of Pokemon games, Black and White in 2011 also]

This should prove to be an interesting review. This is now one of my favourite Pokemon movies now. Its story is much like that of Lucario and the mystery of Mew in the sense it's based around its own ancient legends somewhat medieval style except this time it's got kings and actual dragons for once! Of course those being Zekrom and Reshiram/Reshiram and Zekrom...

I assume that two movies of the same generation of near identical storylines exist is because they found the both legendaries almost identical. As well as that there's a feature within the game to go to "another dimension" to visit someone else's game or something along those lines. Not to mention that they must have been aware that the games' stories are identical with only a switch of legendary and a few words. Ruby was different to Sapphire because you were trying to stop team magma rather than team aqua and Gold was different to Silver because you go to a tower rather than a cave to catch the other legendary. Black and White don't have this privileged and therefore are mere copies.

Oh, I forgot, the shiny Pokemon featured

changes.

This one's Hydreigon.

This one's Golurk.

Another difference is the "antagonists" Pokemon.

In this case it's Gothitelle.

In this case it's Reuniclus.

Sorry, I forgot to tell the actual story. Unfortunately it doesn't mention the part about Zekrom and Reshiram/Reshiram and Zekrom splitting into two for each of its master although it does include said masters. It was something about reclaiming some land and using this movies dragons power to harness the Dragon force however it starts destroying the land in the process.

A side story is that Victini (this movies cute Pokemon) used to be the pet of a king. That's about it. However what I really like about Victini is how it's both a cute Pokemon but actually useful as well being able to give any person or Pokemon good luck of some kind for a limited time. Well, sort of good luck or just the power to succeed given that it is known as the Victory Pokemon.

It ended how you would expect it. Ash putting himself forward to save the day and ultimately succeeding. But by the end of it I realised that I actually enjoyed it. It's not to the same level as the first and second movies but it's nice to see a Pokemon movie without world destroying implications, terrible characters or stories that go nowhere. I would suggest watching it. I wouldn't recommend it since there are better Pokemon movies but it is up there.

[Released in 2012 and based primarily on the fifth generation of Pokemon games, Specifically the sequels, Black 2 and White 2 in 2012 also]

The best I can describe this movie is as an extended episode of he show.

You know those weird, old Pokemon episodes like the Crystal Onix or the pink Pokemon because they ate those berries? This movie has one of those improbable ideas as well.

Deep in the forest is a 3 Musketeers group known as the sword of justice made up of Terrakion, Virizion and Cobalion. Training for the group is the headstrong Keldeo. All 4 have the power of telepathy on the account of the can speak but they never move their lips. For some reason they gloss over this more than usual and treat it as if it's their first time encountering telepathy.

They actively roam the forest and help other Pokemon in their time of need such as forest fires and he like.

You can probably already see what I mean. It's not a natural thing like when Shaymin a few movies back was bugging Ash to take her to the flower garden or just a legendary beast kind of thing to fulfil a prophecy.

I just find a ragtag group of Pokemon running around saving Pokemon and getting PR from the press (as suggested by how much nurse Joy knows about them and even has footage of them) just seems extremely improbable to me. As improbable as any of the old Pokemon episodes like the time there was a giant Tentacruel or the time they were riding a Porygon inside a computer.

I guess I could say that Kyurem being in this movie was my favourite part but it really isn't. Kyurem has no backstory other than his creation from Zekrom and Reshiram splitting and that's it. It creates blistering cold winds wherever it goes and there's probably something about challenges.

What I find pretty annoying is the fact they described Kyurem as the most powerful dragon type Pokemon. Well, according to a Pokedex website called Veekun.com, Kyurem is far from the most powerful dragon type being outranked by most mega evolutions, other dragon types and even Zekrom and Reshiram themselves however Black and White Kyurem (which he can switch between at will ignoring the game specifications) out ranks almost all other non-mega Pokemon in Attack and Special Attack. Not really that consistent when you consider that Mewtwo who was pandered at the time to be the most powerful Pokemon was actually the most powerful Pokemon statistically until Arceus.

This is not one of the better Pokemon movies and I don't think I benefited anymore than I would have not watching this movie. I just can't come up with an excuse to watch it since I can't seem to find anything I could take away from this. There was something about facing your fears but that was too flat to take anything in from it. It just wasn't fun or anything.
